Tonight we’re playing a show at The Mint in LA.
On the surface, it probably seems pretty normal. Nothing particularly special about this show. I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I have a love-hate relationship with touring. Tonight will be number I-Don’t-Know-How-Many in a long list of shows since Peter & I started doing this back when we were 13. I’m 23 now. That’s 10 years of shows. 10 years of getting up on stage and singing and playing , dragging equipment around from rock club to rock club. Getting shocked by a microphone, hearing the crowd sing along, listening to your applause and cheering. Feeling at home on the other side of the country. Meeting every one of you fine people. Sharing stories and learning about the way people live. Sleeping on a floor or in the back of the van. Driving a bus across the West Texas desert in a dust storm. Late night load outs followed by the glow of white lines under the headlights of our spaceship.
Nothing worth doing ever happened without a lot of sacrifice and dedication & nobody ever said it was gonna be easy; there have been ups and downs along the way. But I’ve decided that tonight will be a special show. It will be the last for a few months until we’re done with this new album. When we take the stage, I’ll be there, in the moment. When the first chord of Call You Out comes shimmering in after 8 hits of the bass drum, I’ll start singing. But I don’t lose sight of how far we’ve come… How much love we’ve had from everyone. Tonight, in childlike anticipation of Halloween, we’ll dress up as we do every year. My father will be in the crowd, here all the way from Indiana. It will be a special show I hope you’ll join us if you’re in the area - I promise to make it fun, crazy and a little ridiculous… in true TWH style.

I saw this band from LA (whose hometown is Indiana), play in PB/San Diego last night. They are all particularly attractive and what’s even better is that they are actual musicians, and sound like their recordings, unlike most people today. To me the singer sounds like Ben Kweller and the bassist looks a bit like Jonny Lee Miller. And yes, I mentioned it to the guitarist and singer. They were amused. But enough about me. These guys are great and you should give them a listen if you like poppy rock. Think OKGo.
Thank you so much for your appreciation! You are awesome - He looks so much like Johnny Lee Miller it isn’t even funny. Actually it’s really funny…. So you know. See you next time we play SD?
